Six nations are expected to host the 2030 World Cup.

Alejandro Dominguez, the head of South America's football governing organization CONMEBOL, made the initial announcement of an unexpected agreement on Wednesday, combining the bids of Uruguay, Paraguay, and Argentina with those of Spain, Portugal, and Morocco.

To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the first World Cup, which was staged in Uruguay in 1930, this strategy calls for each of the three South American countries to host one of the opening matches of the competition.

The remainder of the competition will thereafter be contested in Morocco, Portugal, and Spain. All six countries will reportedly qualify for the 48-team competition as hosts.

Following a short period of time, FIFA made this selection official, despite earlier objections about the method used to choose the competition's hosts.

Gianni Infantino, FIFA president, said, "In 2030, we will have a unique global footprint, three continents - Africa, Europe, and South America - six countries - Argentina, Morocco, Paraguay, Portugal, Spain, and Uruguay - welcoming and uniting the world while celebrating together the beautiful game, the centenary, and the FIFA World Cup."

In addition, FIFA has officially said that it will prioritize bids from Asia and Oceania for the 2034 World Cup, despite rumors of a potential Saudi Arabian candidacy.

It's a historic occasion, declared Dominguez. "Celebrating the 100th anniversary of football, three continents have come together.

"Six nations joining together, we are overjoyed. The Estadio Centenario [in Montevideo, Uruguay] is where the centennial celebrations get started. Before the game, there will be a celebration celebrating the anniversary. Three inaugurations, not simply games, will take place in Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay.
