Hilights | Auckland FC's 2-1 Derby Victory Over Phoenix
Auckland FC continued their dominant form, extending their winning streak to six games with a thrilling 2-1 victory over Wellington Phoenix in a record-breaking A-League derby.
A packed Go Media Stadium, hosting a record crowd of 26,253, witnessed a captivating match. The home side took the lead in the first half when captain Hiroki Sakai's precise cross was inadvertently deflected into the Phoenix net by defender Isaac Hughes.
The lead was doubled after the 70-minute mark, as All White Nando Pitjnaker rose highest to power a header past the Phoenix goalkeeper.
While Auckland FC were on the brink of their sixth clean sheet, Kosta Barbarouses, a former Auckland FC player, broke through the defense and scored a late consolation goal for Wellington Phoenix.
