Matthäus Criticizes Rummenigge's Claim About Wirtz as Germany's Best Player

On March 2, Bayern Munich legend Lothar Matthäus recently criticized Karl-Heinz Rummenigge's statement that Florian Wirtz is the best player in Germany during an interview.

Matthäus said, "Musiala's contract has recently been renewed, valued at about 175 million euros, which is obviously a significant sum. To then say that a player like him is not the best player in Germany is an insult to Musiala. You can say you prefer Wirtz because he is a very excellent player, or that he is as good as Musiala, or that they are different types of players—but he is also very important to the team."

Rummenigge had recently expressed in an interview that Wirtz is his pick for the best player in Germany and openly shared his desire for Wirtz to join Bayern Munich.

Matthäus continued, "However, in this case, I think Rummenigge's statement is a bit excessive. I don't know why he said that. Max Eberl wouldn't be pleased either, as he has to sort through a lot of things every day. This isn't the Rummenigge I know. When I read that statement, I was surprised, but I believe Karl will ultimately sort things out in his own way—especially internally."
