Real-Time European Competition Points Table: Premier League Leads, La Liga Expands Advantage Over Serie A
On March 14, it was announced that the Round of 16 in the three major European competitions has concluded. The 24 teams that advanced to this season's European quarter-finals have been finalized, resulting in changes to the real-time European competition rankings. Athletic Bilbao's elimination of Roma has allowed La Liga to establish a significant lead, greatly enhancing their hopes of securing an additional Champions League spot.

Additionally, while the Primeira Liga currently ranks fifth above Ligue 1 in points, all of their teams participating in European competitions have been eliminated, effectively confirming they will finish outside the top five in the final standings this season. The Eredivisie, Belgian Pro League, and Greek Super League have also seen all of their teams knocked out from this season's European competitions.

According to UEFA's points system, teams reaching the quarter-finals in the knockout stage will receive bonus points based on their performance. The specific bonus points are: 1.5 points for the Champions League, 1 point for the Europa League, and 0.5 points for the Europa Conference League. Points awarded for qualifying in subsequent rounds remain the same: 1.5 for the Champions League, 1 for the Europa League, and 0.5 for the Europa Conference League.

The allocation of additional Champions League spots this season will follow last season's rules: leagues ranked in the top two based on their European competition points will receive an extra Champions League berth. Last season, Serie A and the Bundesliga earned additional Champions League spots.

The calculation of a league's European competition points is based on the average points earned by all teams in that league participating in European games. If a team is eliminated from qualifying rounds, they still count towards the statistical average, meaning they affect the overall average points despite not earning points in the group stage (as is the case with Lens in Ligue 1 this season).
