Real Madrid's Pursuit of the Treble

Spanish media outlet AS has discussed Real Madrid's ambitious goal for this season as they aim for a historic treble. Following their defeat in the Spanish Super Cup, the club quickly set its sights on winning the La Liga, Copa del Rey, and UEFA Champions League titles—an achievement that has eluded them in their 123-year history. Only Barcelona has accomplished this feat twice in a single season.
After a recent victory against Villarreal in La Liga, Real Madrid demonstrated resilience, winning just 67 hours after their match against Atlético Madrid. This has fueled optimism within the club about their chances of securing the three major trophies this season.
Coach Carlo Ancelotti noted in a recent interview that despite numerous challenges, March marks the first time in three years that they have a realistic shot at competing on all fronts.
To reach the Champions League final, Madrid faces four tough matches, starting with a quarter-final against Arsenal, followed by a potential semi-final against either Paris Saint-Germain or Aston Villa. In the Copa del Rey, they hold a 1-0 advantage heading into the second leg against Real Sociedad on April 1.
Currently, Real Madrid is level on points with Barcelona in La Liga, having played one more match. Historically, the closest they have come to a treble was in the 1957, 1959, 2017, and 2022 seasons, where they won the league and Champions League but fell short in the Copa del Rey. Only a few clubs, including Celtic, Ajax, Manchester United, and Barcelona, have achieved a treble in football history.
