West Ham in Talks for Lille’s Jonathan David as Free Transfer Looms

West Ham United have initiated positive discussions with the representatives of Lille’s star striker Jonathan David, aiming to secure his signature on a free transfer in the summer of 2025, according to The Athletic. The 25-year-old Canadian forward, whose contract with the Ligue 1 club expires in June, has attracted interest from several European giants, including Barcelona, Inter Milan, and Juventus. However, West Ham are making a strong case to bolster their attacking options despite their current 16th-place standing in the Premier League with 35 points.
David has been in scintillating form, boasting an impressive 0.77 goals and assists per minute in the 2024/25 Ligue 1 season, with 14 goals and three assists in 1991 minutes. His overall tally this season stands at 28 goals and five assists across all competitions, making him a prime target. Fans, however, remain skeptical, with some questioning why David would join a struggling side, especially given West Ham’s existing attacking talents like Jarrod Bowen, Mohammed Kudus, and Lucas Paqueta. Competition remains fierce, as Manchester United and Liverpool have also held talks with David’s entourage, but West Ham are pushing hard to secure the prolific striker’s services.
