Darwin Núñez Set to Join Al Hilal in €53 Million Transfer from Liverpool

Uruguayan striker Darwin Núñez is poised to leave Liverpool for Saudi Pro League giants Al Hilal in a deal worth €53 million plus add-ons, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. The transfer, confirmed on Wednesday, marks the end of Núñez’s three-year stint at Anfield, where he scored 40 goals in 143 appearances since joining from Benfica for an initial £64 million in 2022.
The 26-year-old’s move follows a verbal agreement between all parties, with a medical examination scheduled as the final step. Al Hilal’s coach, Simone Inzaghi, reportedly made Núñez his top target, seeing potential in the forward despite his inconsistent form at Liverpool. The transfer reflects the Saudi Pro League’s growing influence, fueled by significant investments from the Public Investment Fund, which has transformed the league into a hub for top talent.
Núñez’s departure will see him sign a three-year contract until June 2028, with a substantial salary increase. Liverpool, meanwhile, aims to reinvest the funds, having already bolstered their squad with signings like Hugo Ekitike. The deal underscores a strategic shift for both clubs, with Al Hilal eyeing a stronger continental presence and Liverpool planning for a new attacking era.
