Nottingham Forest Seal £30m James McAtee Transfer from Manchester City

Nottingham Forest have finalized a significant transfer deal, securing Manchester City midfielder James McAtee for an initial £22 million, with the potential to rise to £30 million including add-ons. The agreement, confirmed on Thursday, includes a buy-back clause and sell-on fee favoring Manchester City, reflecting the Premier League champions' strategic interest in the 22-year-old England U21 international.
McAtee, who made 34 senior appearances for City and scored seven goals, struggled to secure regular first-team action under Pep Guardiola. His move to Forest offers a chance to establish himself in the Premier League, following successful loan spells at Sheffield United. The transfer aligns with Forest’s ambitions following their seventh-place finish last season and subsequent Europa League qualification after Crystal Palace’s appeal against a UEFA ruling failed.
The deal underscores Forest’s aggressive summer strategy, bolstered by an estimated £35 million in Europa League prize money. Manager Nuno Espírito Santo aims to strengthen the squad for a demanding season across multiple competitions. McAtee’s medical is scheduled, with personal terms already agreed, marking another step in Forest’s transformation into a competitive force in English football.
