Juventus Loan Young Fullback Jonas Rouhi to Westerlo with Buy Option

Juventus has finalized a loan deal for 21-year-old Swedish fullback Jonas Rouhi to Belgian club K.V.C. Westerlo, with an option to buy, as confirmed by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. The agreement, reached late Sunday, includes a medical evaluation as the next step, signaling a strategic move to develop the promising defender.
Rouhi, who joined Juventus in 2020 and extended his contract until 2028, made his Serie A debut on August 26, 2024, but has seen limited first-team action under manager Thiago Motta. The loan to Westerlo, a mid-table side in the Jupiler Pro League, offers the young Swede valuable playing time to hone his skills. Westerlo, known for its development of talent since returning to the top flight in 1997-98, sees Rouhi as a key addition following the departure of Jordan Bos.
This move reflects Juventus’s ongoing strategy of loaning young players to European clubs to enhance their experience, a tactic supported by a 2022 UEFA study indicating 68% of loaned players under 23 increase their market value. The buy option provides Juventus flexibility, allowing them to assess Rouhi’s progress without immediate financial commitment. Further details on the deal’s terms remain undisclosed.
