Barcelona Midfielder Gavi Faces Lengthy Recovery After Knee Surgery

September 25, 2025 – FC Barcelona’s promising midfielder Pablo Páez Gavira, widely known as Gavi, is set to miss the next four to five months following arthroscopic surgery on his right knee, the club announced on September 23. The 21-year-old underwent the procedure at Hospital de Barcelona to repair a medial meniscus tear, a setback that compounds an 11-month absence due to a prior ACL injury in the same knee sustained in November 2023.The surgery, which involved suturing the meniscus to preserve its function, comes after Gavi had recently returned to action, contributing two assists in five La Liga starts this season. His absence will test Barcelona’s squad depth as they navigate a demanding schedule under manager Hansi Flick, who led the team to a domestic treble in the 2024-25 season.
Post-surgery, Gavi expressed determination, stating, “Those who know me know that I will return whenever necessary to defend Barça and my loved ones until the end.” Teammates Lamine Yamal, Pedri, and Ronald Araujo visited him in the hospital, underscoring the team’s solidarity.
