Espanyol Spoil Carrión's Oviedo Return with 2-0 Victory

RCD Espanyol secured a vital three points on the road, defeating Real Oviedo 2-0 at the Estadio Carlos Tartiere on Friday night in a La Liga clash. The result spoiled Luis Carrión's return to the Asturian bench, handing the home side another frustrating defeat in front of their fans.
The first half was a closely contested affair, with Real Oviedo dominating possession but failing to convert their pressure into clear-cut chances. The crucial breakthrough arrived in the second half for the visitors.
In the 70th minute, veteran striker Kike García netted the opener for Espanyol. The goal, initially subject to VAR review, was eventually confirmed, delivering a significant blow to the host's morale. Despite Oviedo pushing for an equaliser—even hitting the post through Alberto Reina—they struggled against a well-marshalled Espanyol defence.
The decisive goal came in the 82nd minute when Pere Milla struck a superb effort into the top corner following an assist from Omar El Hilali, securing the 2-0 victory. The defeat leaves Real Oviedo still searching for their first home win of the season, while Espanyol climbs to a more comfortable position in the upper half of the table.
