Strasbourg Appoints David Weir as Sporting Director in Bold BlueCo Move

Racing Club de Strasbourg Alsace has officially named David Weir, the former technical director of Brighton & Hove Albion, as its new sporting director, effective today, November 1, 2025. The appointment, announced by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, marks a significant step in the club’s strategy under BlueCo ownership, which also controls Chelsea FC. Weir, a 55-year-old Scottish veteran with a decorated playing career at Everton and Rangers, brings over a decade of executive experience, including his instrumental role in Brighton’s renowned data-driven recruitment model.
This move follows Strasbourg’s heavy summer investments and aims to bolster the club’s multi-club system, with Weir tasked to enhance youth development and scouting operations. His arrival aligns with BlueCo’s vision to replicate Premier League success in Ligue 1, leveraging expertise from Brighton’s successful identification of talents like Moisés Caicedo. Weir will collaborate with technical director Pascal de Maesschalck and recruitment head Grégory Thil to steer Strasbourg, currently 12th in the league, toward a competitive revival.
The appointment underscores BlueCo’s commitment to integrating its clubs, with Weir’s prior connections to Chelsea’s Paul Winstanley and Sam Jewell hinting at a cohesive strategy across the ownership network.
