Inter Miami Secures Permanent Transfer of Rodrigo De Paul from Atlético Madrid

Inter Miami CF has exercised its option to permanently sign Argentine midfielder Rodrigo De Paul from Atlético Madrid, the club announced as part of its 2025 end-of-season roster decisions. The deal, reportedly worth €15 million (approximately $17 million), commits the 31-year-old World Cup winner to the Herons through the 2029 MLS season.
De Paul, who initially joined Inter Miami on loan in July 2025, quickly became a pivotal figure in the team's historic campaign. He contributed 2 goals and 7 assists in 23 appearances across all competitions, starting all six Audi MLS Cup Playoff matches and scoring the decisive goal in the final against Vancouver Whitecaps FC, securing the club's first-ever MLS Cup title.
The move elevates De Paul to a Designated Player alongside captain Lionel Messi, filling one of the slots vacated by the retirements of Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets. Known for his relentless energy, leadership, and on-field chemistry with Messi—forged during Argentina's 2022 World Cup triumph—De Paul adds world-class depth to Miami's midfield.
Atlético Madrid receives a significant financial boost from the transfer, allowing reinvestment in their squad. For Inter Miami, retaining De Paul signals continued ambition as they build toward defending their title and competing in future competitions, including the expanded FIFA Club World Cup era.
