Manchester City Close In on £65m Antoine Semenyo Deal

Manchester City are advancing rapidly in negotiations to sign Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo in the January transfer window, with the 25-year-old Ghanaian indicating a strong preference for a move to the Etihad Stadium.

Semenyo, who has impressed with eight goals and three assists in 16 Premier League appearances this season, has a £65m release clause in his contract that activates on January 1 but remains valid only until January 10. City are set to hold direct talks with Bournemouth this week, aiming to structure a deal with potentially favourable payment terms rather than triggering the clause outright.

The player's desire to join Pep Guardiola's side stems from ambitions to compete for major trophies, as City remain contenders in the Premier League and Champions League. Rivals including Manchester United, Liverpool, and Chelsea had shown interest—Chelsea even enquired before withdrawing—but Semenyo has favoured City throughout. 

Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola has expressed reluctance to lose his star attacker mid-season, acknowledging the unpredictability of the market. Semenyo, who joined Bournemouth from Bristol City in 2023, has developed into one of the league's most dynamic wingers, offering pace, power, and versatility across the front line.City's pursuit addresses their need for greater attacking depth amid reliance on Erling Haaland. Formal steps are expected imminently, positioning the transfer as one of January's major moves.
