Tottenham Hotspur Secure €40m Deal for Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid

Tottenham Hotspur have finalized the transfer of midfielder Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid in a permanent deal worth €40 million (£approximately 34.7m). The 25-year-old England international has informed Atletico of his decision to join Spurs, prompting the clubs to agree on the fee structure.
The move comes after a competitive pursuit, with Aston Villa having reached a verbal agreement with Atletico earlier on January 12, 2026. However, Gallagher opted against that proposal, allowing Tottenham to step in and secure his signature with a stronger permanent offer.
Gallagher, who previously starred at Chelsea before moving to Spain in 2024, made 77 appearances for Atletico across all competitions, contributing seven goals and seven assists. His limited starts this season (only four in La Liga) factored into his desire for more regular football and a return to the Premier League ahead of potential international commitments.
Tottenham booked Gallagher's medical for later this week, with the player set to sign a long-term contract until June 2031. The acquisition addresses midfield reinforcement needs following Rodrigo Bentancur's recent hamstring injury, which is expected to sideline him for around three months.
The signing bolsters manager Thomas Frank's options in central midfield, adding energy, work rate, and box-to-box qualities to the squad during a challenging period.
