Andoni Iraola Appointed Liverpool's New Head Coach on Two-Year Deal

Liverpool Football Club have officially appointed Andoni Iraola as their new head coach, succeeding Arne Slot following the Dutchman's abrupt departure after a disappointing 2025/26 campaign.
The 43-year-old Spaniard joins from Bournemouth, where he spent three impressive seasons transforming the Cherries into a competitive Premier League side known for high-energy, attacking football. Iraola has signed a two-year contract at Anfield, with the club expecting to present him to supporters in the coming days.
Speaking on Liverpool's official website, Iraola expressed his enthusiasm: “I'm really excited, really excited. Because obviously you know about Liverpool, you know that it’s a big club, a massive club, one of the biggest in the world.”The appointment marks a fresh start for the Reds after Slot's tenure ended in turmoil. Despite winning the Premier League in his debut season, Slot was sacked following a fifth-place finish marred by injuries, inconsistent results, and fan discontent.
Sporting director Richard Hughes, who previously brought Iraola to Bournemouth, led the swift recruitment process. Iraola is expected to bring several members of his backroom staff from the south coast.Fans will now look ahead to the 2026/27 season, hoping Iraola can restore Liverpool's dominance with his dynamic tactical approach. The move represents both high ambition and significant pressure at one of football's most iconic institutions.
