Bruno Fernandes Named PFA Player of the Year After Record-Breaking Season

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has been named the 2025/26 PFA Players’ Player of the Year, becoming the first United player to claim the prestigious award since Wayne Rooney in 2010. The 31-year-old Portuguese midfielder received the honor at the 53rd annual PFA Awards ceremony held at the Manchester Opera House.

Fernandes enjoyed a truly sensational campaign, spearheading United's resurgence under manager Michael Carrick to secure a third-place finish and a return to the UEFA Champions League. The playmaker etched his name into English football history by registering a phenomenal 21 assists, breaking the all-time Premier League single-season record previously shared by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne. He also added nine league goals, bringing his direct goal contributions to 30.

To claim the award voted on by his peers, Fernandes beat out heavy competition from Arsenal's title-winning trio Declan Rice, Gabriel Magalhães, and David Raya, as well as Manchester City’s Erling Haaland. The PFA trophy completes a clean sweep of England's major individual honors for Fernandes, who was also named the FWA Footballer of the Year and the Premier League Player of the Season.
