Vietnam Retain ASEAN Cup Title After Dramatic 2-2 Draw with Thailand

Vietnam successfully defended their ASEAN Football Championship title after a thrilling 2-2 draw against arch-rivals Thailand in the final second leg on Wednesday, securing a 4-2 aggregate victory.
Carrying a comfortable 2-0 lead from the first leg, the Golden Star Warriors faced an immediate test of nerves at home. Thailand started aggressively, breaking the deadlock in the 12th minute through a clinical strike by Yotsakorn Burapha. The War Elephants missed a golden opportunity to level the aggregate score early in the second half when Kakana Khamyok uncharacteristically failed to convert a 49th-minute penalty.
The miss proved costly just three minutes later when an unfortunate own goal by Thai goalkeeper Chatchai Bootprom gifted Vietnam a 1-1 equalizer. Thailand refused to back down, and Wanchai Jarunongkran restored their match lead in the 84th minute, setting up a frantic finale.
However, deep into stoppage time, Wanchai turned from hero to villain, accidentally turning the ball into his own net. The 2-2 draw on the night was more than enough for Vietnam, who celebrated back-to-back regional titles in front of a roaring home crowd.
