First-Half Blitz Powers Aston Villa to Thrilling 3-2 Win at Club Brugge

Aston Villa successfully overcame an intense second-half fightback to edge Club Brugge 3-2 at the Jan Breydel Stadium, securing a crucial opening win in their UEFA Champions League league phase campaign.

The English side, desperate to break an early-season goal drought, exploded into life in the 11th minute. Captain John McGinn side-footed home a fine finish off a Pau Torres run, becoming Villa's all-time record European scorer with 12 goals. Although Brugge quickly responded in the 19th minute through Hugo Vetlesen’s low shot, Villa hit back almost immediately. Emiliano Buendía tapped in from close range just three minutes later to restore the lead.

Shortly before halftime, summer signing Nicolas Jackson ruthlessly intercepted an aggressive clearance attempt from veteran keeper Yann Sommer and swept the ball into an empty net, registering his first goal for the club.

Holding a comfortable 3-1 lead, Unai Emery’s side faced a nervy final half-hour.
