Strength Comparison
Arsenal arrive at Anfield as the stronger side on paper and on the table. They sit level at the top of the Premier League with 21 points from eight matches, having won seven of those games and conceded just five goals. Their defensive record is the best in the division, and they have kept three consecutive league clean sheets. Liverpool are fifth with 15 points from eight matches, four wins, three draws and one loss. Their attacking output remains impressive, with 21 goals in their last 10 matches across all competitions, but their home league form has been inconsistent: one win, two draws and one loss at Anfield so far this season.

Liverpool’s biggest problem is squad availability. Szoboszlai is out with a recurring hamstring issue, while Frimpong and Bradley are unavailable at right-back, forcing a makeshift solution in that area. Arsenal are also missing Bukayo Saka for several weeks, and Max Dowman is suspended. However, Rice, Calafiori and Trossard have returned to training and could be available, which would significantly improve their midfield control and left-sided balance.

Head-to-Head
This fixture has become one of the Premier League’s most tightly contested rivalries. In the last eight league meetings, Liverpool have won just once, with four draws and three Arsenal victories. The 2024-25 season produced two 2-2 draws, while earlier this term Liverpool beat Arsenal 1-0 at the Emirates in August 2025.

Arsenal’s problem is specifically at Anfield. They have not won a Premier League game there since September 2012, going 13 league visits without victory: five draws and eight defeats. That makes this a psychological battle as much as a tactical one. Liverpool know they can compete with Arsenal, but Arsenal know they must finally break a long-standing away curse.

Key Factors
Saka’s absence: Arsenal lose their most consistent wide creator. Madueke’s fitness is uncertain, so Arteta may lean more on Eze, Trossard and Ødegaard for creativity.
Arsenal’s midfield recovery: If Rice and Calafiori pass late fitness checks, Arsenal’s control and defensive stability improve considerably.
Liverpool’s right side: Without Frimpong and Bradley, Liverpool’s width and defensive transitions could be limited against Arsenal’s left-sided attacks.
Isak’s form: Alexander Isak has been Liverpool’s most reliable finisher. Arsenal’s centre-back pairing of Konsa and Gabriel must keep him quiet for long periods.
Title implications: Arsenal can move top if results go their way, while Liverpool need a win to stay firmly in the title conversation.

Expert Prediction
This should be a tense, low-margin game. Arsenal have the better league form, the stronger defence and enough squad depth to cope with Saka’s absence. Liverpool have Anfield, attacking momentum and a clear incentive to respond after losing to Manchester City at home. However, their right-back issues and Szoboszlai’s absence make it harder for them to control the midfield battle.

Arsenal are slight favourites to edge this, but a draw would also fit the recent pattern between these two sides. A narrow Arsenal win or a 1-1 draw looks the most likely outcome, with Arsenal 2-1 the preferred scoreline if they can manage Liverpool’s transitions and exploit set-pieces.
