Real Madrid Secures Raúl Asencio with €100m Release Clause in New Contract

Real Madrid has solidified its commitment to young talent by extending the contract of 22-year-old Spanish defender Raúl Asencio, a move that underscores the club’s focus on building a robust domestic core. The new deal, confirmed on March 26, 2025, ties Asencio to the La Liga giants until 2029 and includes a hefty €100 million release clause, doubling the previous €50m figure, according to COPE. This follows the club’s activation of a pre-agreed option to extend his contract, originally set to expire in 2026.
Asencio, a Canary Islands native, has enjoyed a breakthrough season, making 29 first-team appearances since his La Liga debut in November 2024, a 4-0 victory over Osasuna. His rise comes amid injuries to key defenders like Eder Militao, showcasing his physical conditioning and ball-playing ability. Despite interest from English clubs, Asencio has expressed his desire to “make history” at Real Madrid, with plans already in motion to extend his contract further until 2031, as reported by Fabrizio Romano. However, his ascent is overshadowed by an ongoing investigation into allegations of sharing a sex tape involving a minor, a case that remains unresolved after a Spanish court rejected his appeal in February 2025.
