PSG Owner Considers Acquiring Spanish Club Málaga

On March 27th, reports from multiple media outlets, including The Athletic UK, indicate that Paris Saint-Germain's owner is contemplating a purchase of the Spanish Segunda División club Málaga.
Led by Nasser Al-Khelaifi, chairman of Qatar Sports Investments (QSI), the group also owns 22% of Portuguese club Braga and holds stakes in Formula 1 team Audi and NBA franchise Washington Wizards.
QSI has confirmed its interest in Málaga, with a spokesperson stating: "QSI is currently exploring a range of investment opportunities in Europe and the United States."
One attraction of Málaga for QSI is its La Rosaleda Stadium, which has a capacity of 30,000 and is set to host matches for the 2030 World Cup.
The Spanish hotel and real estate group Blue Bay owns 49% of Málaga, while Qatari businessman Abdullah Al Thani holds the remaining 51%. The club is currently under administration and judicial control.
Málaga has experienced turbulent years, having been relegated from La Liga in 2018 and dropping to the Primera Federación in 2023 after spending much of this century in the top flight. They are now back in the Segunda División, currently sitting in 15th place, seven points above the relegation zone.
