Mbappe and Rudiger Avoid Suspension, Real Madrid Ready for Full Strength Against Arsenal!
Excitement is building ahead of the upcoming clash between Real Madrid and Arsenal in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals next week. Recently, four Real Madrid players were under UEFA's scrutiny for inappropriate celebrations following their victory over Atletico Madrid last month. However, the latest decision brings relief to the Spanish giants.
KylianMbappe and Antonio Rudiger were found guilty of breaching conduct rules after the match but will not face suspension for the Arsenal game. UEFA handed them a one-match ban, though it will only be enforced if they commit a similar offense within the next 12 months, making the suspension conditional.
Along with the suspension, both players were fined. Rudiger was penalized with a fine of approximately €47,000, while Mbappe was fined €35,000. Dani Ceballos, also involved in the celebration, received a €22,000 fine but no playing ban.
UEFA's ruling followed an investigation by their Ethics and Disciplinary Inspector. In their official statement, UEFA cited the players' violation of Article 11(2)(b) of their Disciplinary Regulations, which relates to appropriate behavior on the field.
Vinicius Junior, who was initially under investigation for his role in the incident, was cleared of any punishment, and UEFA decided not to pursue any disciplinary action against him.
The controversy stemmed from Real Madrid's dramatic second-leg victory over Atletico Madrid in the Champions League Round of 16, which ended in a penalty shootout after a 2-2 aggregate draw. During the celebrations, several Madrid players made gestures directed at opposing supporters, with Rudiger’s actions being the most controversial.
In terms of squad news, Real Madrid will be without AurelienTchouameni for the Arsenal match due to a yellow card accumulation. Meanwhile, Thibaut Courtois' availability is uncertain as he continues to recover from injury, although coach Carlo Ancelotti is hopeful he will be fit for the game.
With these UEFA decisions, Real Madrid's defense and attack will remain strong, ensuring an exciting contest against Arsenal, both teams ready with near full-strength lineups.
