Rodrigo De Paul Joins Inter Miami in €15m Transfer from Atlético Madrid

July 23, 2025 – Inter Miami CF has secured a major coup with the signing of Argentine midfielder Rodrigo De Paul from Atlético Madrid for a reported €15 million. The transfer, confirmed by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, marks a significant boost to the MLS club’s midfield as they aim to strengthen their squad for the upcoming season. De Paul, 31, has signed a four-year contract, with formalities expected to be completed in the coming days.
The move reunites De Paul with compatriot Lionel Messi, his teammate from Argentina’s 2022 World Cup-winning squad. Known for his versatility and tenacity, De Paul has made 134 appearances for Atlético since joining in 2021, scoring 12 goals. His experience in La Liga and international success add depth to Inter Miami’s roster, which already includes Designated Players Messi, Jordi Alba, and Sergio Busquets.
The transfer raises questions about roster management, as MLS rules limit teams to three high-salary Designated Players. With Busquets’ contract nearing its end, the club may need to adjust its lineup. Inter Miami’s co-owner Jorge Mas finalized negotiations in Madrid, signaling the club’s ambition to compete at the highest level in the MLS and beyond.
