Manchester United Players Advocate for Tom Heaton as Starting Goalkeeper Amid Struggles from Onana and Bayındir

Some first-team players feel that Heaton has outperformed first-choice goalkeeper André Onana and second-choice Altay Bayındır in training and deserves a chance to play.

Since the Red Devils signed Onana from Inter Milan for £43 million in 2023, the goalkeeper position at Manchester United has been under intense scrutiny.

Since being brought in to replace David de Gea, Onana's performances have been inconsistent. While he has kept 24 clean sheets, he has also made a series of high-profile errors.

In the season opener against Arsenal in the Premier League, second-choice goalkeeper Bayındır started but made a costly mistake, leading to a 1-0 defeat for Manchester United.

Bayındır also featured in Manchester United's 1-1 draw with Fulham last week but struggled with defending crosses. This weekend at Old Trafford, he conceded a goal that allowed Burnley to equalize 2-2, before Bruno Fernandes dramatically scored a winning penalty in the dying moments of the match.

Now, sources have told The Sun that Heaton, who has made only three appearances at Old Trafford since returning to the club in 2021, deserves a chance.

They said: "Based on his performances in training, some players feel Tom should be given an opportunity. He is experienced, takes good care of himself, and is a key member of the squad. The other two are struggling at the moment, so why not give Tom a shot?"
