Newcastle United in Surprise Deadline-Day Move for Roma's Artem Dovbyk

August 31st, The Sun's renowned journalist Alan Nixon exclusively reports that Newcastle United are in talks regarding a surprise deadline-day move for £30 million-rated Ukrainian striker Artem Dovbyk.

The Magpies are still looking to bolster their attacking firepower and are planning to loan Dovbyk from Italian side Roma with an option to make the deal permanent.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe aims to bring in two forwards to break the deadlock with Alexander Isak and facilitate the departure of the Swedish striker, who is eager to join Liverpool.

With Callum Wilson having joined West Ham United on a free transfer, Howe is in need of more attacking options.

The towering 6'6" (approx. 1.98m) striker Nick Waltmad has completed a £69 million move from Stuttgart to Newcastle, though he was not registered in time for Saturday's away trip to Leeds United.

With that deal finalized, Howe has now turned his attention to the 28-year-old Dovbyk, a surprising target.

The 6'2" (approx. 1.93m) striker moved to Serie A from Spanish side Girona last summer, where he scored 24 goals in 39 appearances.

However, his goal tally has halved in Serie A, and Roma are open to letting him leave.

Roma are holding out for a higher offer but have yet to receive any serious bids, so a move to the Premier League could suit them—provided the loan fee is substantial or a guaranteed permanent deal is secured.

This could also work for Newcastle, who have already lost Wilson and may also see 22-year-old William Osula leave before the transfer window closes.
