Barcelona Set to Return to Renovated Spotify Camp Nou This Weekend

November 18, 2025 – After a 915-day hiatus, FC Barcelona is poised to reclaim its iconic Spotify Camp Nou for a La Liga showdown against Athletic Club on November 22, 2025. The long-awaited return follows an extensive €1.5 billion renovation project, launched in June 2023, aimed at modernizing the stadium and boosting its capacity to 105,000 seats. The first phase, completed under strict safety and accessibility standards, will initially accommodate around 60,000 spectators.
The renovation, part of the Espai Barça initiative, includes a new players’ tunnel, enhanced security systems, and upgraded facilities, with construction cranes still visible as work progresses. The Barcelona City Council granted the occupancy license for Phase 1B on Monday, approving the reduced capacity after a successful test event last week drew 23,000 attendees for an open training session. Club president Joan Laporta expressed optimism, noting the return marks a significant milestone for the team, which has played home matches at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys during the overhaul.
Barcelona hopes to secure UEFA approval to host its upcoming Champions League match against Eintracht Frankfurt at the revamped stadium, signaling a new era for the Catalan giants as they aim to climb from their current mid-table La Liga standing.
