Neymar’s Santos Future Uncertain as Contract Nears Expiry

Santos forward Neymar faces a pivotal decision over his future, with his current contract set to expire on December 31, 2025. The 33-year-old Brazilian, who returned to his boyhood club Santos in mid-2025 on a short-term deal following his departure from Paris Saint-Germain, has confirmed he will not make any announcement before taking a post-season break.
Despite undergoing knee surgery earlier in the campaign and missing several months, Neymar made a dramatic impact upon his return. In the final four matches of the Brasileirão season, he registered four goals and one assist across just four appearances, contributions that proved decisive in keeping Santos in the top flight.Speaking after the club’s survival was secured, Neymar told reporters: “Santos will always be my priority, but right now I need rest. We’ll talk about the future later.”
Club officials are keen to extend the former Barcelona and PSG star’s stay, but no formal negotiations have begun. Meanwhile, Neymar’s camp has received preliminary interest from MLS side Inter Miami and several European clubs. Sources close to the player indicate that both a renewal at Santos and a new challenge abroad remain genuine possibilities. A final decision is expected in early January 2026.
