Mbappé Returns to Training, Boosting Real Madrid’s Champions League Hopes Against Bayern

Kylian Mbappé has rejoined full team training with Real Madrid, easing concerns over his fitness ahead of the crucial UEFA Champions League quarter-final second leg against Bayern Munich on Wednesday. The French superstar missed Sunday’s session after suffering a deep gash above his right eyebrow during Real Madrid’s 1-1 La Liga draw with Girona on Friday. An elbow from defender Vítor Reis in the 89th minute left Mbappé bleeding profusely, requiring three stitches. The incident also sparked controversy, as many argued it warranted a penalty that was not awarded by referee or VAR.
Despite the precautionary absence, Mbappé trained normally on Monday without needing a protective mask, only a simple bandage. He is now fully available for the trip to the Allianz Arena, where Real Madrid trail 2-1 on aggregate following the first leg. Bayern secured the narrow advantage with goals from Luis Díaz and Harry Kane, while Mbappé netted a late consolation for the hosts.
Interim coach Álvaro Arbeloa will welcome the return of his star forward, alongside left-back Ferland Mendy, as Madrid seek a famous comeback in Munich. The 15-time European champions have a proud history of dramatic European recoveries, and Mbappé’s pace and finishing could prove decisive. With the tie finely balanced, all eyes will be on whether the Frenchman can help overturn the deficit and keep Real Madrid’s Champions League dreams alive. Kick-off is set for Wednesday evening.
