Juventus Set Sights on Mateo Retegui to Reshape Their Attack
Juventus are exploring the possibility of signing Mateo Retegui as Luciano Spalletti looks to strengthen the club’s attacking options before the summer transfer window closes. The Italian striker has emerged as a fresh target for the Turin side as they search for more firepower following significant changes to their forward line.
Retegui has recently returned to the spotlight after scoring an important goal for Italy in their 2026 World Cup qualifying match against Israel in Udine. Juventus have already added Randal Kolo Muani and Jeff Ekhator, but their attacking department remains in need of further reinforcement. Dusan Vlahovic has departed on a free transfer, while Lois Openda has been sent out on loan, and Jonathan David and Arkadiusz Milik are reportedly not central to Spalletti’s plans.
The potential departure of David is considered an important factor in Juventus’ pursuit of another striker. The club have also been linked with Manchester United forward Joshua Zirkzee and Atletico Madrid’s Alexander Sorloth, but Retegui has now returned to the list of candidates. His familiarity with Italian football could make him an attractive option for a team looking for an immediate impact.
Spalletti already knows Retegui well from their time together with the Italian national team, which could help smooth the transition should a deal materialize. Juventus sporting director Marco Ottolini also has a previous connection with the striker, having played a role in bringing Retegui to Serie A from Argentina in 2023 during his time at Genoa.
The biggest obstacle could be Retegui’s financial situation at Al-Qadsiah, where he reportedly earns around €20 million per season. Juventus are believed to prefer a loan arrangement if the striker is willing to return to Serie A, but his salary would need to be addressed during negotiations. While the financial details could prove complicated, Juventus appear confident that Retegui could be persuaded to make the move and become an important part of Spalletti’s attack.
