Alvaro Morata Set for Leganes Move as Como Negotiate Final Loan Details
Alvaro Morata is reportedly on the verge of joining Leganes on a season-long loan after reaching an agreement with the Spanish second-tier club. The move would see the experienced striker return to Spain as he looks to revive his career following a disappointing spell at Como. The two clubs are now working on the final details, with the distribution of Morata’s salary among the main issues still being discussed.
Morata joined Como on loan from AC Milan last season before the Italian club’s permanent purchase obligation was activated. Despite the move becoming permanent, his future at Como now appears uncertain. The 33-year-old still has a contract with the club until 2029, but a temporary return to Spain could provide him with an opportunity to regain his confidence and rediscover his goalscoring form.
Leganes are particularly interested in Morata because of his previous experience in Spain’s second tier. During his time with Real Madrid Castilla, he produced an impressive return of 12 goals and five assists in 18 appearances. His experience at the highest level of European football, combined with his familiarity with the division, makes him an attractive addition for a Leganes side hoping to secure promotion to La Liga.
The remaining negotiations are reportedly focused on financial arrangements, with Como potentially expected to cover part of Morata’s salary for the 2026/27 season. The former Spain captain remains an experienced figure despite his recent struggles, having previously played a key role for the national team at major international tournaments. His departure would allow Como to reshape their attacking options while giving Morata a fresh environment.
Morata’s poor production last season is believed to be a major factor behind the proposed move. He managed only one goal in 30 appearances across all competitions during his time with Como, a record far below what would normally be expected from a striker of his experience. A loan spell at Leganes could therefore represent an important chance for Morata to rebuild his reputation, contribute to a promotion campaign, and prove that he still has plenty to offer in Spanish football.
