AC Milan Strike Financial Gold as Rafael Leao Completes Galatasaray Move
Rafael Leao has officially ended his time at AC Milan by completing a lucrative transfer to Galatasaray after lengthy negotiations between the clubs. Milan ultimately agreed to a lower initial fee of around €43–45 million, with another €2 million available in bonuses and a 20 percent sell-on clause. Although the final figure fell below the Rossoneri’s original expectations, the deal still represents a significant financial boost for the Italian side.
Leao’s decision to move to Turkey was reportedly influenced heavily by Galatasaray’s attractive salary package. The Turkish giants are prepared to pay the forward around €12 million per season, a figure considerably higher than the proposal available from Aston Villa. The Premier League club had offered a less appealing arrangement involving a lower transfer valuation and a loan deal with an obligation to buy.
Milan had initially hoped to receive more than €50 million for Leao, although that target was already significantly below his original release clause, which had stood at more than €100 million. Despite settling for a fee in the €43 million range, Milan are still expected to record a net capital gain of approximately €31.8 million because the remaining book value of the player is only around €11.2 million.
The financial impact goes beyond the transfer fee itself. Milan are also expected to save approximately €12.1 million in wages and amortisation costs during the 2026/27 season. Combined with the transfer profit, the move could generate a total positive financial impact of around €43.9 million for the club this year. The Rossoneri could benefit even further if Galatasaray eventually sells Leao, thanks to the 20 percent future-sale clause included in the agreement.
Leao’s departure therefore closes an important chapter at Milan while providing the club with considerable financial flexibility. Although losing a talented attacking player will be felt on the pitch, the transfer gives Milan valuable funds to strengthen their squad and manage their finances. For Leao, meanwhile, the move to Galatasaray marks the beginning of a new challenge in Turkey and a potentially lucrative stage of his career.
