Mundo Deportivo: Florentino to Miss El Clásico, but Laporta and Riquelme Meet on Saturday

October 25 – According to Mundo Deportivo, ahead of Sunday's El Clásico between Barcelona and Real Madrid, Barcelona president Joan Laporta was the centre of attention at a traditional social gathering, the "Civet de la Fonteta," on Saturday afternoon. The event, which brings together Spanish political and business elites, saw Laporta seated at the same table as former Real Madrid presidential candidate Enrique Riquelme, drawing considerable attention.

The luncheon was a high-profile affair, with not only football figures but also several Spanish political leaders and business chiefs in attendance, including:

- Juanma Moreno: President of the Regional Government of Andalusia
- López Miras: President of the Region of Murcia
- Josep Oliu: Chairman of Banco Sabadell

Former Barcelona president Sandro Rosell was also present and approached Laporta for a friendly exchange.

What is the "Civet de la Fonteta"?

The "Civet de la Fonteta" has for years been a flagship social event for Catalonia's elite, while also attracting influential political and business figures from Madrid.

Unlike typical business conferences, the gathering is held at the private residence of businessman Luis Conde. Its private nature makes the atmosphere more relaxed and informal, making it a key occasion for Spain's most powerful people to exchange views and build relationships.

Although the gathering usually focuses on economic and political topics, the presence of Laporta and Riquelme added a strong football flavour to this year's event.

It is worth noting that Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez has confirmed he will not attend El Clásico in person. But on the eve of football's biggest fixture, the Barcelona president and a former Real Madrid presidential candidate sharing a table added a talking point off the pitch. Both teams are now ready to settle matters on the field.
